One should also consider the possibility of creating diets that overlap each other. In addition to the cultural category you've thus far put forward, we could also create additional ways to categorize food, such as nutrition. Example: a high-carbohydrate diet would be comprised of tortillas, wheat noodles, bread, and french fries; high-protein diets consist of steak, fish, and tofu. Hamburgers and bean noodles could count towards both diets since they have elements of both.

In this way we can create an interesting variety of diets from a small number of foods.

I see. So a more "health pyramid" style of foods than a "classification"

Like:
----------------------sugars & fats
-------------Dairy & eggs--||----- Fruits
----Vegetables & Rice-----||-------Meats & Fish
Breads, Cereal,---------------------Grains, Fiber, etc.

Instead of what i was saying? Or both?

In addition to whatever else we may have. Chinese will have foods that are rich in either protein or carbohydrates, just as a protein diet can have food from multiple cultures.

I like this concept of a "food pyramid", and a sort of mix-and-match approach to foods here instead of a themed approach! I do generally agree with MSOB, we should have low food diversity, probably balanced off by allowing players to mix the small number of basic blocks into a wide variety of diets.

If food is becoming more of a need though, it would have to be way more readily available than it was in our RLFM. We'd probably need ice cream vendors and food you can get from news/snack stands, as well as dedicated restaurants. Hmm... we could have girl scouts walking the city selling cookies...
